SAP S/4HANA migration for higher performance and future viability

Energie Steiermark, which is based in Graz and has around 2,200 employees, commissioned CONVOTIS to modernise its SAP system landscape.
The focus was on the migration from SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 to SAP S/4HANA. CONVOTIS took on both the technical management and the operational support to ensure a secure, timely and uninterrupted transformation.
Status quo
Until the migration, Energie Steiermark operated an SAP ERP 6.0 EHP8 on an SAP HANA database.
The solution was stable, but was increasingly reaching its limits in terms of future viability, efficiency and integration of modern cloud components. Parallel to the start of the migration to SAP S/4HANA, CONVOTIS also took over the SAP Basis operation in order to relieve the customer in the long term and provide optimal support.
The challenge
The goal: a smooth migration to SAP S/4HANA – during ongoing operations and without impacting the security of supply.
Particular challenges lay in the complexity of the existing SAP landscape with numerous add-ons, the necessary preparation through extensive preliminary projects and the high availability requirements as a system-critical energy supplier.
The solution
CONVOTIS took over the technical management of the SAP S/4HANA conversion, carried out the HANA database upgrade and supported the entire migration – including readiness checks, test conversions and co-development of a detailed cut-over plan for the go-live.
SAP cloud components such as SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC), SAP ARIBA and SAP SuccessFactors were also connected. After the successful changeover, CONVOTIS took over the system and application optimisation as part of the hypercare phase, including the introduction of Fiori apps and single sign-on. By working closely with Energie Steiermark’s internal IT team, CONVOTIS provided both technical expertise and operational support in order to absorb the increased project effort and ensure a secure migration.
The result
The migration was successfully completed with only a short interruption to operations.
Energie Steiermark now benefits from a modern SAP S/4HANA system landscape with significantly improved performance, simplified usability via Fiori apps and the integration of innovative cloud solutions. The Enterprise Search function has been activated and enables faster data access and more efficient processes.
