Hotel DES ALPES is a charming 3-star hotel located in the historic center of Lucerne, directly by the Reuss river and the iconic Chapel Bridge.
It offers guests scenic views and a welcoming atmosphere. To ensure a seamless experience, the hotel depends on a reliable IT infrastructure that supports essential hotel management systems without interruption.
Status quo
The hotel’s previous IT infrastructure was unstable and lacked adequate backup mechanisms.
System failures caused disruptions in key processes such as check-ins, bookings, and administrative tasks. A fail-safe, reliable IT solution was urgently required to ensure operational continuity and protect critical data. CONVOTIS was tasked with designing a high-availability infrastructure.
The challenge
The key objective was to implement a redundant infrastructure capable of supporting all hotel-specific systems around the clock.
Network segmentation between guest access and hotel operations was needed, along with data protection and automatic failover. All components had to work seamlessly to prevent business interruptions, even in case of partial system failures or external disruptions.
The solution
CONVOTIS deployed two Microsoft Hyper-V 2012 servers in a cluster configuration, ensuring automatic failover in case one server goes offline.
The hotel’s network was split into a secure operations segment and a separate guest Wi-Fi. Internet lines were consolidated and data backups are now performed redundantly on separate storage devices to guarantee resilience and data security.
The result
The new setup enables uninterrupted operation of all hotel services.
Core systems run reliably and are protected against outages. Guests and staff operate on isolated networks, improving security and performance. The infrastructure reduces maintenance overhead while ensuring full availability of business-critical applications, even under load or during component failures.
